Production in the European construction sector remained stable during July, registering growth of 0.4% in the Eurozone, and increasing by 0.6% in the EU28, according to Eurostat.
The figures from the EU’s statistical office reversed a negative trend in June, when year-on-year levels of production had reduced by 0.4% and 0.1% respectively, owing to a fall in building construction.
However, according to the latest results, building construction rose by 0.8% in July within the Eurozone (despite 2% civil engineering falls). In the EU28, there was a rise of 0.2% in building construction, but a 1% reduction in civil engineering projects.
Taking an annual comparison, the highest production increases in construction were seen in Slovenia (+24.8%), Hungary (+17.5%) and Spain (+11.6%). The largest decreases were in Romania (-19.7%), Portugal (-8.8%) and Slovakia (-6.1%).
